An eleven-year-old boy named Mup Chan Thoeurn is easily recognizable wearing his favorite bright blue shirt and navy blue shorts. His hair is cut short but still sticks up in an unruly manner. He smile at you with his shining white teeth while the dark chocolate color of his eyes sparkle with life. His friends call him Thoeurn, for short, and he is one of the brightest, young students currently attending the English and Khmer literacy classes at Tiny Toones.
The sole reason that Thoeurn comes to Tiny Toones is to absorb as much knowledge as possible from the educational program. English is his favorite class, and he pronounces words in English with a clear and confident voice free of any accent. He learned about Tiny Toones through his friends, who knew about it first. He has been attending classes held at the main center for eleven months now and plans to stay for much longer.
But he rarely come alone because is only one of six siblings. His parents have four boys and two girls, all of whom attend Tiny Toones daily. His father is a construction worker who builds houses in the Phnom Penh area. Working as a garmet tailor from home, his mother is usually at her sewing machine surrounded by spools of thread and pieces of cloth.
Thoueurn dreams of being a policeman - keeping the streets of Phnom Penh safer. His thirst of knowledge inspires all of his teachers to return and teach more to their classes.
